Common Questions
All questions are welcomed.
Here are a few of the most common:
-
I work with struggling readers, grades K-12 with and without diagnosed learning differences. (Including dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia and autism).
-
From a young age, I knew I would follow in my mother’s footsteps and pursue a career in education. At 13 (yes, seriously at 13!!) , I started a tutoring business in the Bay Area while balancing my academics. After studying economics in London, I transferred to UCLA and earned a degree in Philosophy, where I discovered my passion for reading, writing, and critical thinking.
Throughout college, I continued to create personalized lessons for my clients in LA, which led me to join a wonderful educational therapy team and serve students with and without learning differences, in 1:1 and small-group settings. Seeking to master a science-based approach to literacy instruction, I became Wilson certified as a Dyslexia Reading Practitioner.
In 2021, I returned to the Bay Area and founded my own private literacy practice, Literacy Beyond Words. While I’ve found great success with the Wilson method, I sought to further personalize my instruction to meet each student’s unique needs. This inspired me to complete intensive training with the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
Today, I joyfully provide engaging, effective lessons in literacy and executive functioning for students K-12—and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon!
-
I meet with my students at my center in San Carlos, virtually, and/or on school campuses.
-
I see my students from Sundays - Fridays, 10am - 7pm.
-
Research shows that struggling readers benefit most from meeting with a professional at least twice a week to see meaningful progress. Some families choose to schedule more frequent sessions for faster results. Each session is one hour long.
-
I use the Orton-Gillingham approach, widely regarded as the gold standard for evidence-based and customizable literacy instruction. This method meets each child at their individual level, allowing for tailored instruction that builds on their unique strengths and needs, rather than relying on a 'one-size-fits-all' curriculum. This approach is explicit, organized, structured and cumulative, leaving no room for guess-work.
-
My fee structure varies based on frequency and location of sessions. I offer a free 45-minute consultation to learn more about your child's needs and discuss a personalized plan.
